Which program for an Alpha mast?

The Alpha mast was developed to get you started and progressing fast in foiling (wing foil, sup foil, surf foil, etc.). Its 16 mm fixed cord, provides stability in flight but also a good grip for a quick take-off. It is also very suitable for all levels of riders wishing to have an easy and accessible mast offering great versatility.

What size to choose?

The shorter a mast, the less draft it has. For surf foil sessions, where you will often be sailing in shallow water, this can have an advantage.

It also allows you to avoid walking too long before you can turn the board over and put the foil in the water. In addition, with the shorter masts, during pumping, the movements and the amplitude are shorter, meaning the 82cm mast is a great choice for locations where the water is generally smooth or wavelets are well spaced and quite soft.

Many will find it's the optimum mast for learning on for all the above reasons, and in many locations, for many riders, will do everything you want, very well.
A longer mast will be more forgiving in many locations. Why?

With a longer mast, you have more time to react - for example, when you feel that your front wing is about to come out of the water.

Extra time allows you to think "be careful, my wing is coming out of the water, I must put my weight further forward!" This can be invaluable, saving you from the inevitable 'breach' a shorter mast would cause!

You to gain confidence much sooner be prepared to push harder for speed, as well as higher lean angles, bringing your foiling to new levels.

You will really appreciate this confidence giving reaction time in choppy/lumpy, locations, where the advantage is the same for 'touch downs' with the board, where the longer mast again gives you more time to react and bring the board smoothly back up.

These are often the masts that we recommend for those who are looking for speed, or simply sail on choppy waters. The fact that you have more height will prevent you from always having to play and juggle your board attitude in relation to the tops of the waves.
The 82 cm mast is long enough to allow you to have a good combination of the advantages of a shorter mast, while it's long enough, that many would look at it and think it's a long mast and it will give them all the advantages of this.

The 92 cm mast is oriented towards a rider sailing on a very choppy spot, or not so constrained by shallow water, but even a complete beginner should not be afraid of matching this with our AFS Carver 1500, 1700 or Performer 1650, 1900 front wings, just as they would on the 82 mast, as both masts will serve you very well and for many, will provide all the performance you desire for years to come.
They are compatible with all AFS ALPHA fuselages.

Mast to Board and Mast to Fuselage connection

The connection of the mast to the board is Plate Head at the industry standard width pitch of 90mm, secured by 4 x M8 CSK socket head screws 35 mm long, with flat nuts (supplied with mast). Some makes of boards might need different length or design of screw to work.

The connection of the fuselage end of the mast is made by a Precision Moulded 4 way taper block, which is formed as a part of the entire mast structure, which has 3 x (replaceable) A2 Stainless Steel Barrel Nuts, and is identical on every Alpha or Performer Mast.

The fuselage is assembled to the mast by means of a Precision CNC Machined 4 way Taper Pocket and 3 x 25 mm long M6 CSK T30 A4 Stainless Steel Screws (supplied with mast), which screw into the barrel nuts.

EVOLVE ON THE COMPLETE RANGE

Thanks to a single T-BAR/Fuselage design for the AFS ALPHA and AFS PERFORMER range, all masts and fuselages are interchangeable (unless bonded model), meaning you will be able to swap between all the Masts & Fuselages in this range, along with all the Front Wings and Stabilisers in the AFS Carver, Flyer, Performer & Tracer ranges and will also fit the Pure range, although we do recommend using these very high performance products with the AFS Performer Masts.

Construction

Made of pre-preg carbon in France, the foil is stiff and light. With pre-preg fabrics, the carbon fibre is directly impregnated with epoxy resin during its manufacture. This guarantees a perfect ratio of epoxy and carbon, and represents the best quality process. Laser cut, then assembled in the form of a stack, the carbon fibres are then positioned in a mould which is cured at high temperature, ensuring each product has optimum strength and durability.

Whether it is from the machining of the moulds, to the packing & shipment, everything is managed in our company in France allowing us to have a high quality process and guaranteed finish every time.

THE PACK

The Mast is sold in its own cover to protect it disassembled from the foil, or still attached to the Mast. It includes the mast to board nuts and screws, as well as the fuselage to mast screws and T30 screwdriver.

Warranty

All AFS products come with a 2 year warranty, subject to our fair usage policy.
